A CENTURY OF JAZZ
Guest Artists: Byron Stripling (trumpet), Wycliffe Gordon (trombone), sax soloist, guitar soloist, and drummer.
Tracing each era of Jazz, this program begins at the turn of the (20th) century with music of Scott Joplin and Jelly Roll Morton taking the audience through the roots of and the different eras of America's original art form. It’s all about Jazz from Ragtime, Swing, Big Band, Bee-Bop and Fusion.

MOTOWN TRIBUTE
Guest Artist: “Spectrum” vocal quartet
Featuring fresh Tyzik arrangements written especially for the Detroit Symphony. This program features hit songs from the Temptations, The Four Tops, James Brown and more.

Based on the Tyzik/Nakamatsu best-selling 2007 Harmonia Mundi recording which was at No. 3 on Billboard’s Top Classical Albums chart for seven weeks and in the Top 15 Classical Albums chart for four months. This is a rich and entertaining program of Gershwin’s best songs from film and Broadway including “Swanee” and “Our Love Is Here To Stay”, plus his Cuban Overture, Rhapsody in Blue and American in Paris.

A NIGHT AT THE COTTON CLUB
Guest Artists: Byron Stripling (trumpet/vocals), Carmen Bradford (vocals), tap dancer, drummer
Jeff Tyzik and Byron Stripling have created a night at the legendary Cotton Club to be premiered in Rochester in 09/10. Vocalist Carmen Bradford, a tap dancer, and the great music of Ellington, Chick Webb and Cab Calloway. A night of exciting music and dance from the bands that made history in 1920s New York.

ROMANCING THE WEST

Two of Broadway's hottest vocalists bring a chemistry to the stage that is unmatched.

A unique Tyzik program of some of the greatest music of the 1940’s that covers Swing, Broadway, Film and Classical “hits” of that unique decade. Featuring Tyzik’s signature arrangements of the swing classics: In The Mood, String of Pearls, One O’Clock Jump, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and more. Broadway hits from "Oklahoma"and ”South Pacific”), Film ("Casablanca") and Classical (Copland "Hoedown"). This concert has the feel of a big production. An evening of Sinatra and Dorsey full of their hit songs that have touched the hearts of millions, with new Tyzik arrangements of Sinatra favorites " My Way", "New York, New York", “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” “Fly Me To The Moon” and more and classic Tommy Dorsey hits "Getting Sentimental Over You", "Marie", "Song of India" and the newly rediscovered Shilkret Trombone Concerto written for Dorsey in the 1940’s. A journey through the sounds of Latin influence on orchestral standards such as Ginastera's Estancia Suite and Gershwin's Cuban Overture plus Tyzik arrangements of Piazzolla's "Oblivion" and Lecouna's "Malaguena", to the Latin influences on today's popular music as performed by the 5-piece salsa ensemble (bass, sax, drums, piano, sax/flute) The Mambo Kings. The Mambo Kings have created unique arrangements of Dave Brubeck's "Blue Rondo", Santana's "Oye Como Va" and other popular latin standards. A program that integrates the symphonic repertoire with Latin jazz and salsa.

SOUNDS OF BRAZIL
Guest Artist: Brasilia ensemble
This 5-piece ensemble with vocalist with a sound reminiscent of Astrude Gilberto brings the samba to life on stage. Original and traditional Brazilian music is integrated with an orchestral sound through Tyzik's exceptional arrangements including a tribute to Jobim ("Girl from Ipanema", "Summer Samba", "Corcorvado") and Piazzolla favorites.

Jeff Tyzik has created over 40 holiday pieces for orchestra, orchestra/chorus and orchestra/children's chorus and special features for orchestra soloists. After twelve seasons, Tyzik's holiday pops with the Rochester Philharmonic now attracts 17,000 concertgoers each year. Chanukah and Christmas selections and special musical Santas are included. Each Tyzik holiday concert can be adjusted to fit the orchestra's needs/wishes.
